Our aim
We aim to meet the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines 2.2 at level AA. Accessibility includes being able to read information, move around the site and use controls without relying on a mouse.
The website is designed for older people, young adults with disabilities and their families, on phones, tablets and desktop computers. This statement does not claim full conformance or certification.
Using the website
- A skip link lets keyboard users move directly to the main content.
- Headings and landmarks organise the pages, with visible focus indicators for links and controls.
- Body text starts at 18 pixels and layouts adapt to narrow screens. You can enlarge text using your browser’s zoom controls.
- Menus, cookie settings and question panels support keyboard use.
- The site respects your device’s reduced-motion preference. The Personal & daily care photo sequence pauses while you point at it or move keyboard focus into it, and you can change photos manually; automatic cycling stops when reduced motion is enabled.
Display options
Every page has a Display options panel: the “Aa” button in the header, and a Display options button in the menu and footer. It lets you choose:
- Larger or largest text (125% or 150%).
- Higher contrast, with darker text and stronger outlines.
- Wider spacing between letters, words and lines.
- Underlined links.
- Reduced motion, which turns off fades, typing effects and moving photos.
Your choices apply straight away and are remembered on this device. The panel needs JavaScript; without it, your browser’s zoom and your device’s display and motion settings still work.
Current limitations
The website currently offers English only. A language selector will appear when more than one complete, professionally reviewed language version is available.
How we test
Development checks include automated accessibility scans, keyboard checks and layout reviews at phone, tablet and desktop widths. Native browser zoom at 200% has also been checked in development. These checks help identify problems but cannot prove that the site works for everyone.
We continue to test with screen readers and on common devices, and we will update this statement with anything we find.
